History
Samalens is a Maison d’Armagnac founded in 1882, located in the heart of the vineyards of the grand crus of Bas Armagnac. The family follows all the production processes and matures the spirits in French Armagnac barrels to preserve the aromas. The Armagnacs are then placed in used barrels to slowly mature until the final blend. The distillery, built in 1973, is one of the most important in the region.
Production method
Armagnac is produced from black berried grapes harvested in the Armagnac region of France. After fermentation of the must, a wine is obtained which is then distilled in single column copper stills. The brandy is then aged in French oak barrels for at least a year, but usually for decades. Aging gives Armagnac notes of vanilla, spices, dried fruit and wood. The final blend is then obtained by mixing different vintages of brandy, to obtain a uniform and harmonious flavour. Armagnac is an intense and complex distillate, with a unique bouquet and a long and persistent finish.
