History
Benromach distillery is a small distillery located in the north of Scotland, specifically in Forres, in the Speyside region, and was founded in 1998 by Brickmann and Macallum. The history of the distillery sees it protagonist of various vicissitudes and periods of closure more or less long. Despite this, it saw a definite and progressive rebirth starting from 1998, when it was acquired by the independent bottler Gordon & Macphail just in the year of its centenary. The peculiarity of the distillery is that it produces very elegant whiskies with a light peat, just like it was done around the 60s in the Speyside region.
Production method
Single malt whisky is produced by first undergoing a maltation process where barley’s complex sugars are broken down into simple sugars for yeast fermentation. This occurs in 3 stages: soaking the barley in water, germination to release enzymes, then drying and grinding the barley to extract the wort. The wort is fermented and distilled, followed by aging which is crucial for the distillate’s flavor. The choice of wood is an essential part of the aging process.
Tasting notes
Light amber color with honey-colored reflections. On the nose notes of citrus, cedar, acacia honey, saffron, sherry and black pepper, with a background of smoky. In the mouth it is powerful, alcoholic and decisive, with recalls of spices and citrus on the finish. Long persistence.
Usage
Perfect as an after-dinner drink or for meditation; particularly recommended for lovers of elegant and complex whiskies. Highly recommended for enthusiasts!
