History

The curious story of the Colli di Luni DOC and its Vermentino owes its fame largely to the famous artist Michelangelo Buonarroti. The sculptor spent months and months on the eastern end of the Apuan Alps, probing all the marbles in the area until he could find the perfect marble for his work, just as happened for the famous David. All this annoyed many people, especially the farmers and naval traders of the area, since the continuous fall of debris during the excavations ended up literally blocking naval traffic on the Magra river, creating real dams that made it impossible to pass. Yet, this continuous accumulation of debris has ended up creating a soil soaked in earth, marble residues and sea water which gives the grapes a complexity and unique aromas. The company was founded in 1993 by Roberto Petacchi, in the footsteps of his maternal grandfather. The company has vineyards on two levels: in the plains the IGT Rosso and Bianco are produced while in the hills the wines of the DOC Colli di Luni are produced mainly Vermentino, and Rosso.

Production method

The Vermentino grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected, then pressed and fermented in steel at a controlled temperature for about two weeks. The wine is then aged in the bottle for a few months before being marketed.

Tasting notes

Intense straw yellow color with golden reflections. Broad and perfumed nose with sensations of yellow fruit, mint, citrus peel and minerality. In the mouth the wine is straight, dry, fruity and closed by an important salinity and acidity.

Possible combinations

Vermentino “Pianacce” is ideal as an aperitif for lovers of fragrant and decisive maritime wines. In combination, it compares very well with seafood, seafood salad, first courses with fish sauce, such as spaghetti with clams or with the typical local “muscoli”.
